About the Artist
My work explores the space between what we see and what we feel.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the space between what we see and what we feel, rooted in the tradition of disrupted realism. Drawing from my background in psychology, I intentionally break down familiar forms using expressive color and soft, blurred edges to capture the raw landscape of human emotion. Each piece is a visual conversation, inviting you to look beyond the surface and connect directly with the subconscious moods that shape our lives.

ARTIST BIO
Angela Menzies paints larger-than-life size portraits that vibrate with color and humanity. She grew up living off the grid in a remote area of BC. In grade 11, she fell in love with psychology, and decided to study social and developmental psychology at the University of Victoria. During this time, she began painting figurative works.
Over the next three decades, Angela’s personal work evolved; weaving together narrative images portraying the beauty and vulnerability of being human. Angela’s spontaneous and disrupted realism paintings create dynamic relationships between integrated layers of painted imagery and explore topics like mental illness and women's issues.
Angela has also written / illustrated and published an award winning children’s picture book on anxiety called “Sammi’s Worry”. She continues to work on other titles in this series on children’s growth mindset and mental health.
